PRESIDENT’S REPORT: Jack Leonard –
I would first like to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving.

A special thanks to the Brown Township and Malvern Fire Departments for their quick response to the fire on Taas Trail. Donations for the victim are being accepted at the office or in the over-night box at the front of the office.

There are two property owners with boats in the storage area that are in disrepair. Please make arrangements to have them repaired or removed. This lot is not for trash but for recreational vehicles.

The Road Moratorium will be in effect on December 1st. Make your contractors aware of this.

The lake will try to keep our roads well plowed and salted. Drive safely and be careful.

SECRETARY’S REPORT: Dawn Oliver
•    3 Orientations were conducted during the past month.
•    Kudos to the road crew for doing a very good job during the recent snowfall.
•    I would also like to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving

TREASURER’S REPORT: Rex Roseberry

Motion for approval of the October Treasurer’s Report: Motion to Approve by Dawn Oliver, Seconded by Paul Lemmon, Vote Count: 6 Board Members in favor, 0 Board Members opposed, 1 Board Member Absent, Motion Carried.

DIRECTOR OF ADMINISTRATION: Charles Bush
•    The membership software for the office computer system is the testing stage. The Administrative staff has two demo systems to review and evaluate over the coming months. Hopefully, once the evaluation is complete, we will be able to implement a system that will be useful for many years to come.
•    We have completed the annual re-coding of the back gate transmitters. The code was changed on October 31 and all transmitters, which have not been renewed will not be able to open the gates.
•    On or around December 1st, the annual dock billing will be sent out. This billing must be paid to retain use of any Association owned docking.

DIRECTOR OF SECURITY:  Mel Carver
I wish all a Happy Thanksgiving as well.

Unfortunately, we recently had another tragic house fire on Taas Trail. The resident, Steve Beltz, lost everything and the residence was totally destroyed. There is a donation bucket in the main office, so please stop and donate whatever you can. You can also help should you have anything you would like to donate. I would like to thank the Brown Township Fire Department for their hard work and the donations they have made to Mr. Beltz.

We have already experienced the wrath of the winter season and it has just started. If you have read the paper or heard the news, the cost of salt, and other material to put on the roads, has almost doubled with limited supply availability. Our maintenance crew will continue to do the best they can do to keep our roadways clear and safe. However, they will have to use a little more caution to make sure our supply of material lasts the entire winter season. They may not be able to hit the roadways as often as they have in the past. Please slow down and use extra caution this winter season. Remind your guests to do the same.

We recently had a major drug bust and arrest here at the lake. We all need to be on our toes and pay attention to any suspicious activity and report it to our Deputies.

Well, it is official and put in writing, Capt. Moyer will be retiring at the end of this year. We are working on a retirement party some time in January 2009 and will keep you informed as to the time and place.

The Board will be looking at resumes and interview the most qualified candidates to fill Capt. Moyer’s position. This is a very important decision. We will make sure the person chosen is not only qualified, but dedicated to the security and safety of you, your family and this community.

Deputy’s Report

MONTHLY REPORT FOR OCTOBER 2008

Our Lake Mohawk Deputies provided 4 community service calls this month. For the month our Deputies patrolled 2575 miles, consumed 199 gallons of fuel in the cruisers.  For the month our Deputies logged 539.5 hours.  Citations can be found elsewhere in the newsletter.

The following incidents were reported to the Carroll County Sheriffs/Mohawk Post:

1 – Deer Hit
1 – Theft (Bay 6 area)
1 – Credit Card Fraud
1 – Breaking & Entering/Theft

The Deputies at the Lake Mohawk Post would like to wish everyone a safe and enjoyable Christmas season.  With the holiday season upon us the roads can become treacherous and the current cost of salt has risen substantially.  There is a shortage of salt too, which means that the larger cities and/or states, will receive this salt before smaller communities.  So if you must drive (work, etc) please allow yourself more driving time and distance from other vehicles.  Please slow down on our roads during inclement weather. We recently had multiple vehicles off the roadway, in ditches, etc during our snow and ice.  Remember; once salt is laid it take a while to start working.  Many property owners have 4x4’s.  Remember, putting your vehicle into four wheel drive while operating on ice WILL CAUSE YOU TO LOSE CONTROL.  Again, drive carefully….in bad weather if you don’t have to go out….DON’T!

Unfortunately we had another house fire on the west side.  The house was burnt to the ground and the resident is temporarily residing in the Minerva area at this time.  Donations are being accepted at the main office.  This community pulled together before to help someone in need, let’s pull together again and help, especially with the holiday season close at hand.  Once again the Brown Township Fire Department was quick to respond.  We are fortunate to have such a group within Brown Township.

LARGE MOUTH BASS VIRUS (LMBV)
The Final Diagnostic Report has been received from Micro Technologies, Incorporated. The follow up protective measures basically reiterates what has been already reported in previous meetings.
1. LMBV infects adult largemouth bass and is sometimes fatal.
2. There is no evidence of human health risk from eating infected fish.
3. Other fish species can carry the virus, but do not appear to get sick from it.
4. Boats, fishing tackle, and angling practices are believed by many experts to be important factors in the spread of LMBV.
5. Instruct lake users to clean fishing equipment, boats, and trailers after using them in one body of water and going to another.
6. Since the virus seems to multiply and spread more rapidly in warm water, reduce the stress of the fish during these periods.
Any property owner who wishes to obtain a copy of the report may ask for one at the Lake Office.

STOCKING
Our association has stocked a small amount of Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass during the past month. 250 10-13” largemouth and 100 6-8” smallmouth were purchased along with 10,000 fathead minnows. Total cost of this amounted to $2,700.00. The Lake Mohawk Fish Club generously donated $1,000.00 to help with this purchase. Thanks, Fish Club.

HARVESTING
We continue to explore the possibility of starting a weed harvesting program at Lake Mohawk. This winter Joe Jacko and I will stay active in this process. We are in the midst of locating and contacting lake managers across the country who employ the use of lake harvesters, questioning them on maintenance and operating costs, and compile as much information as possible before a final decision is made.

CHRISTMAS TREES
A location at the Marina will be provided to allow property owners to dispose of their Christmas trees after the Holidays. We plan on using these trees as structure for our fishery.

Lastly, I would like to take this time to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving!

LAKE MANAGER: Scott Noble
•    The final draft of a proposed 2009/2010 budget is near completion. The committee will meet to finalize and present the proposed budget to the Board in December. The budget presentation to the community is on December 17th, at the December Board meeting.
•    For those using the temporary overflow boat storage area to store your watercraft, please remember that you are required to stop in the office and pay the $30 storage rent. We also continue to have a problem with those who are not removing the stored items by the May 1st required date, and/or those who are leaving water craft and trailers in the area throughout the year. Next season, those members will be identified and will be charged for the additional storage time.
•    The Board has established a contractor comment binder at the office. Please stop in and provide your experience (good or bad) regarding the quality of the contractors you have used. The comment forms will be retained in the binder. This information will be available and valuable for all property owners to review when contracting work on their property.
•    I will again remind all waterfront property owners that an approved seawall is required including undeveloped waterfront property. Additionally, under the guidelines of the Building Code, there are no private beach fronts allowed. Please review the code to ensure compliance.
•    The road moratorium takes effect on December 1st. Please do not call the office asking for an exception to this rule. Only by vote of the Board of Directors can a variance to the code be granted.
•    On behalf of the staff, I would like to wish everyone a safe and joyous Thanksgiving and holiday season.

CLUB REPORTS –
CIVIC WOMEN – We had a wonderful turnout to complete the November newsletter. I want to thank those who helped including the Malvern students. Our next newsletter will be completed on December 10th at 9AM. If you are available, we sure would appreciate the help.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS: None

NEW BUSINESS:

ADJOURNMENT – 7:25PM with 14 property owners signed in.

OPEN FORUM:

Capt. Moyer – stated that the Board approved requiring the all trailers display the lot number as well. With most of the watercraft covered for winter, it is difficult to get the lot numbers to determine the owner.

Lot 1261 – As superintendent of the school, I would like to thank everyone for their support and success of the football team. The players who live at the lake truly enjoy seeing their record on the marquee.

I would also like to thank Mel Carver, Capt. Moyer and the security staff for addressing their concern regarding the operation of our buses on lake roads. I would like to clear a few misconceptions from last month’s meeting:
1. I have never given permission to any bus driver to speed if they are running late.
2. I have never been granted the opportunity to sit in any property owner’s driveway to monitor the bus driver activity.
3. I was unable to determine the timing of the buses that would be traveling at a time to wake people up.

We have a very collaborative effort between law enforcement and the school system and will work very hard to address any concerns regarding the transportation of the students.
